An oxindole alkaloid with diverse biological activities; inhibits decreases in cell viability and increases in intracellular levels of ROS and MDA induced by Aβ (25-35) in PC12 cells; attenuates decreases in population spike amplitudes in the CA1 region of a rat hippocampal slice model of ischemia induced by oxygen and D-glucose deprivation at 30 and 100 µM; decreases the viability of HepG2, A549, BxPC-3, Caki-1, RPMI-8226, and 786-O cells (IC50s = 130-292 µM); induces apoptosis, inhibits cell migration in a wound healing assay, and decreases invasion in a Matrigel™ assay in HepG2 cells; decreases right ventricular end systolic pressure, hypertrophy, and fibrosis in a rat model of monocrotaline-induced pulmonary arterial hypertension at 0.1% in the diet
