An active metabolite of various polyphenols; reduces bone resorption activity and number of RANKL-differentiated RAW 264.7 osteoclasts in a hydroxyapatite model of resorption at 0.1 mg/ml; interferes with Aβ42 peptide aggregation at 100 µM and accumulates in the brain of rats fed grape seed polyphenol extract; reduces hemolysis, restores disruptions to membrane integrity, and reverses increases in MDA activity and decreases in CAT and SOD activities induced by cadmium in isolated rat erthyrocytes at 500 nM and in rat erythrocytes ex vivo at 80 mg/kg; prevents increases in intracellular cadmium levels in these same cells in vitro and in vivo
